WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- The Lexington Two Board of Trustees has approved changes to student attendance for the 2020-21 school year.
Revisions have been made to existing Board Policy JH. In addition, a temporary administrative rule JE-R has been approved outlining how attendance will be counted for both hybrid and Virtual Academy program students.
Copies of both policies are attached with this story, and parents/legal guardians are asked to read them.
Among changes to Policy JH Student Absences and Excuses:
- Any student who misses school must present a written excuse signed by his/her parent/legal guardian within three school days of the student’s return.
- The district will consider students lawfully absent if they are ill and their attendance in school would endanger their health or the health of others; if the student's chronic or extended illness is verified in writing by a licensed physician, dentist or other medical practitioner within 3 school days after the student has returned to school; and if an appointment with a licensed physician, dentist or other medical practitioner is verified in writing by the licensed physician, dentist or other medical practitioner within 3 school days after the student has returned to school.
In addition, board members approved a temporary administrative rule Policy JE-R Student Attendance, authorizing the administration to implement procedures to ensure student attendance is maintained during the pandemic (COVID-19), ensuring that absences are recorded, and truancy is reported in accordance with Policy JH.
